Man gets no jail time for horse abuse in El Paso County
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The man who pleaded guilty after an investigation into starving and deceased horses on his El Paso County property will spend no time in jail.
Brian Holloway was charged with multiple counts of animal cruelty after two deceased horses were found inside stalls on his property near the 2300 block of Slocum Road between Colorado Springs and Ellicott.
Holloway pleaded guilty back in October and was sentenced Tuesday. He was sentenced to two years of supervised probation, 100 hours of community service, and has to complete counseling and mental health evaluations. He didn't receive a fine.
Holloway also received a five-year ban on owning/caring for animals, but his mother, who he lives with, is allowed to keep her two dogs
During the March 2019 investigation, 10 more horses were found in various stages of emaciation on the property. Since that point, two of the living horses have been euthanized because they were not capable of recovering from such dramatic emaciation.
Officials were first led to Holloway's property Slocum Road after receiving a neglect complaint.
The remaining eight horses were nursed back to health and given homes through the Dumb Friends League Harmony Equine Center in Franktown.
