1 dead in rollover crash in Huerfano County
HUERFANO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado State Patrol is investigating a fatal rollover crash that happened on Colorado 69 near milepost 22 at 11:22 p.m. Saturday.
Michael Mathason, 54, of Gardner, Colorado died in the crash, according to CSP.
A 1993 GMC Suburban was traveling south on Colorado 69 when its right side tires ran off the right side of the road, says CSP. The GMC began to rotate counterclockwise across both lanes of traffice and off the northbound shoulder. The vehicle then began to overturn and collided with a fence.
The driver was ejected from the vehicle. The vehicle came to a stop on its wheels in a field north of the roadway.
Mathason was pronounced dead at the scene by the county coroner. He was not wearing his seat belt and alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash, according to CSP.
