Water main replacement causes closures in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - Colorado Springs Utilities continued work on replacing an aging water line under Union Boulevard Monday.

Construction is taking place between N. Academy Boulevard and Woodmen Road and has caused some lane reductions and overnight closures.

CSU will take out a 12-inch water main and replace it with a 24-inch.

The replacement will enhance the reliability of the water system and prepare for the City's 2C curb/gutter replacement and road paving.

Northbound lanes are scheduled to be closed from 8 p.m. - 5 a.m. One northbound lane will reopen after 5 a.m.

The work will take approximately three weeks to complete and is weather dependent.

There is also construction from Woodland Hills Drive to Dublin Boulevard: traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction. Access to and from Deliverance Drive from Union Boulevard will be completely blocked in both directions for construction work during the day.

Construction is expected to last until the Fall of 2020.
