Get Home Safe: Colorado companies offer free rides home on New Year’s Eve – KRDO

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - According to AAA, a third of all traffic fatalities involve drunk drivers. Be smart and plan ahead this New Year's Eve.

A few local companies are making it easier to get home safe by providing free or discounted rides on New Year's Eve.

McDivitt Law Firm

The law firm will offer free rides from 10 p.m. – 3 a.m. in Colorado Springs and Pueblo. In Pueblo call City Cab at 719-543-2525 In Colorado Springs use the zTrip app, mark “Pay in Car” and then tell your driver “It’s on McDivitt.” The rides are only available for taking people home, not to another bar or restaurant. Sawaya Law Firm

The law firm is continuing its Free Cab Ride Program for people in Denver and Colorado Springs. People can call an Uber or Lyft, pay the driver and send the bill to The Sawaya Law Firm for reimbursement. The reimbursement offer is good for a one-way ride to your home, and the maximum reimbursement is up to $35. For more info. and where to mail the bill click here.

RTD

RTD in Denver will be offering free bus and rail services on its entire system from 7:00 p.m. New Year's Eve until 7:00 p.m. New Year's Day. To plan your ride click here.

A few reminders from AAA:

  • Never get behind the wheel of the car when you've been drinking alcohol - even just one drink.
  • Never ride as a passenger in a car driven by someone who has been drinking alcohol.
  • Do not hesitate to take the keys from friends or family members who may be impaired.
  • If you encounter an impaired driver on the road, keep a safe distance and have your passenger call 911. If you are alone, pull over to a safe location and make the call yourself.
