Teller County first responders provide toys for kids

Teller County kids got a jump start on their Christmas presents early this year, but the gifts Friday weren't from Santa, they were from first responders.

This year, instead of "Shop with a Cop", the event was called "Shop with a Hero". That's because multiple agencies from around Teller County, including the Sheriff's office, Colorado State Patrol and even the Cripple Creek Fire Department, joined in on the fun on Friday.

"Oh, it's wonderful. I was really excited when we got the call. I think I was more excited than the kids," said Nakita Miller, a mother of three from Woodland Park.

"We feel pretty lucky actually. I think we're the lucky ones that get to help all these little guys," said engineer Sam Hedges from the Cripple Creek Fire Department.

The event goes through the weekend with 67 kids being presented gifts on Saturday and 51 on Sunday.
