Broken Valve Leaves Pueblo Jail Tower Without Water for Hours

A broken water valve at the Pueblo County Jail left the jail tower without water service for more than eight hours today. This morning, a city worker tried to turn off a water valve, while a contractor worked on the jail's fire mitigation system and the valve broke. That breakage forced water to be shut off to the jail's aging tower, so crews could locate and repair the broken valve.

The break left 333 inmates and approximately 50 employees without water in sinks, toilets and showers. However, the break did not affect the jail’s kitchen or dormitory area. Drinking water was also provided in portable water dispensers. Crews finished repairs and water was restored to the building at about 4:45 p.m.
