JACKSON, LA (WGNO) — Shortly after 6:30 A.M. on October 22, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatal crash on LA Hwy 68 south of LA Hwy 10 in East Feliciana Parish.

The crash claimed the life of 19-year-old Austin Dixon of Gloster, MS.

The initial investigation revealed that the crash occurred as Dixon was traveling northbound on LA Hwy 68 in a 2018 Toyota Corolla.

At the same time, the Dixon Correctional Institute bus, a 2018 Bluebird Bus, was traveling southbound on LA Hwy 68, heading to the Capitol complex to work their daily detail.

For reasons still under investigation, Dixon crossed the centerline into the opposing lane, which resulted in the Corolla striking the bus head-on.

Dixon was properly restrained at the time of the crash; however, sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced deceased on the scene.

At the time of the crash, 24 trustees and six officers were on the prison bus.

Of that, three inmates and two officers were transported with non-life threatening injuries.

Impairment is unknown at this time, but toxicology samples were taken from both drivers for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
