Colorado Springs man tries to break Incline record despite freezing temperatures

The freezing temperatures are not stopping one Colorado Springs man from trying to beat the record of the number of Manitou Incline ascents in a year.

62-year-old Greg Cummings took to the 2,768 steps Thursday night even when it’s 20 degrees outside. This makes his 272nd day straight he’s made the ascent, but he’s already climbed the Incline more than 1,400 times.

Cummings started the endeavor on January 12, 2019 and has made at least one ascent of the Incline every day since. He says his average is 5.2 ascents per day for the past 272 days. In that time, he’s made 1,413 ascents. The record is 1,719 in 365 consecutive days. If he continues at the present pace, he should be somewhere in the range of 1,900 ascents by the time the one-year event ends on January 11th, 2020.

Cummings is raising money for Camp Wapiyapi, a summer camp for children battling cancer. To donate, you can go to the camp’s website: http://www.campwapiyapi.org/.
