Woman mugged on her way to church, 1 arrested

A 69-year-old woman was reportedly robbed on her way to church in the 1100 block of South 21st Street, according to a police report.

Officers were dispatched to the scene at 9:15 a.m. and made contact with the victim where they learned she had been accosted by a male suspect. The man grabbed and forcibly took her purse, causing her to fall to the ground. He then fled on foot.

About an hour later, officers responded to a disturbance in the 2200 block of Busch Avenue where they found that one of the involved individuals matched the description from the earlier theft.

Offiers were able to locate and return the purse and its contents to the victim. The male suspect, identified as 37-year-old Robert Keeney, was arrested for robbery, assault, and menacing.

According to the police report, Keeney appeared to be “heavily under the influence of drugs” and made several statements implicating himself as the suspect in the mugging while officers were questioning him.
