Police arrest man for identity theft in car stolen out of Colorado Springs

Fountain police arrested one suspect Saturday night who was found to be in possession of other people’s personal bank checks and mail.

At approximately 11 p.m. officers responded to a report of a one car vehicle accident in the area of Sunrise Road and Bar B Road where the two occupants of the vehicle were leaving the scene after become stuck in a ditch.

Officers made contact with the two male parties and learned that their vehicle was stolen out of Colorado Springs. The vehicle’s driver was found to have in his possession multiple people’s personal bank checks and mail.

The driver was taken into custody and booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center for motor vehicle theft, identity theft, and criminal possession of financial devices. The other unidentified male party was later released.

Officers are currently working on contacting the suspect’s potential victims.
