Petition calls for independent investigation into De’Von Bailey case

A petition on organize.org is gaining traction for an independent investigation into the De’Von Bailey case.

As of Tuesday morning, the online petition has over 2,000 signatures.

The petition was created by Shaun Walls and calls for:

An “objective institution” to conduct the investigation, such as the Colorado Bureau of Investigation or the FBI. An independent special prosecutor to present the facts to a grand jury. The release of the police report, officers names and all camera footage.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday that it had finished the investigation into the shooting of Bailey, and the report was turned over to the district attorney’s office. A spokesperson for the DA’s office said it typically takes 90-120 days to review these kinds of cases.

Bailey and another man were being questioned for an alleged armed robbery near Memorial Park on Aug. 3. The officers told the two men to keep their hands up while they searched for weapons, but before an officer could check Bailey, he took off running.

Bailey was shot four times while running away from officers.
