Marty’s Sunday Morning Forecast – Hot & Dry – 8/18/19

Overview: We’re tracking a weak cold front that will affect primarily northeastern Colorado and the plains of southern Colorado mainly east of the I-25 corridor. This cold front will cause low clouds and fog over the northern part of the state through early this morning. The afternoon air temperatures won’t cool by more than a few degrees over southern Colorado as compared to yesterday, and the humidity levels will actually be up for areas mainly along and east of Highway 71 from about Limon to La Junta. Near the mountains, the air will remain hot and dry today. Isolated showers and weak thunderstorms could develop over and near the mountains starting Monday, and while they could provide some afternoon shade and possibly cool a few lucky folks off at least temporarily at times, we don’t expect much rain through early next week.

Today: Mostly sunny, breezy at times and hot with high temperatures in the 90s for the plains, 70s and 80s over the mountains.

Tonight: The sky will become mostly clear, and although it’ll take some time this evening the dry air will eventually cool nicely into the 50s and 60s for most areas by morning, possibly some 40s over the high mountain valleys.

Extended: Monday will be hot and mostly dry save a brief, weak shower possibly over the mountains during the afternoon; temperatures will reach the 90s to lower 100s for the plains. Thunderstorms should increase in coverage after Monday with Wednesday looking to be the most active day for thunderstorms this week. Although the air may cool a bit later this week with the uptick in storms, we still look to remain pretty hot through the week.
