Water main work to close busy Colorado Springs intersection this weekend

Starting Friday at 7 pm, Colorado Springs Utilities will close the intersection at Academy and Dublin for repair work.

Natalie Watts with Springs Utilities said, “This coming weekend we are going to be doing water main replacement work in the intersection of Dublin and Academy.”

The water main work Watts is set to replace two 1970s era water pipes located underneath the intersection, it’s all in an effort to improve service reliability in the area.

“Part of our water main replacement program where we go in and update our infrastructure throughout the city that has been deteriorating,” Watts said.

With the entire intersection closed, what will the alternate routes be?

“Right now the alternate routes are just going to be one right turn lane is going to be open in each direction. So, the three lanes are going to be down to one lane so it’s probably going to get a little backed up,” Watts said.

However, CSU asks that you avoid the area if you can to avoid traffic. To do that you can take alternate routes such as Union Blvd, Woodmen Rd, or Vickers Dr. CSU hopes to reopen the intersection Monday morning around 5 a.m.
