Deer Creek Canyon Park fire believed to be human-caused, deputies search for juveniles

Firefighters have gained 50% containment on a wildfire that forced the evacuation of more than 300 homes in a rural area southwest of Denver.

The fire, located in the Deer Creek Canyon Park area started around 4:45 p.m. Thursday. It has burned about 20 acres, but authorities report no homes have been lost and no injuries have been reported.

At a news conference Friday morning, deputies stated that the fire appears to be human-caused. The investigation into the cause is still ongoing.

Witnesses in the area say they saw two juvenile males running from the area shortly after the blaze broke out. Anyone with information is asked to call 303-271-0211.

Over 100 firefighters were fighting the fire throughout Thursday night and into early Friday morning.

A flyover will be conducted Friday to get an updated number of the acreage.

There is no estimated time of when residents in the area can return home.
