Colorado Springs police investigates identity theft case involving 123 victims

Detectives with the Colorado Spring Police Department are investigating an identity theft and forgery case in which there are 123 victims involved throughout the country.

On August 7, authorities contacted three individuals in regard to a possible stolen vehicle.

As the investigation unfolded, it was determined that at least one of the individuals was heavily involved in identity theft and forgery.

Detectives recovered evidence such as counterfeit US Currency, forged state-issued identification cards, forged credit cards and checks.

Personal identifying information and documents relating to at least 123 victims were also discovered throughout the United States. Some of those documents included tax forms, titles and deeds and certificates of marriage.

Further investigation revealed that the suspects obtained most of the personal identification information online through various sites and facilitated buying and selling of personal identification information.
