Man shot at Colorado Springs homeless camp, 1 arrested

Colorado Springs police arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly shooting another man at a transient camp near downtown.

Officers were called to an area near the Springs Rescue Mission on W. Las Vegas Street for a reported shooting at about 3:20 a.m. Monday, according to the CSPD blotter. That’s where the officers found a 39-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his right arm.

Detectives followed up with witnesses and identified the suspect as Keyon Nesmith.

According to CSPD, Nesmith was booked into the El Paso County Jail for multiple felony charges, including first-degree assault and possession of a weapon by previous offender.

The victim’s current condition isn’t known.
