CBI annual stats show violent crime is up across Colorado

An annual study released by the Colorado Bureau of Investigations shows violent crime increased in 2018 compared to 2017 statistics.

That trend runs true for some communities in Southern Colorado, including Colorado Springs.

Violent crimes — which include murder, rape, aggravated assault, and robbery — all saw increases.

In the city of Colorado Springs, there were 32 murders in 2018 up from 29 murders in 2017.

Robberies also went up by 60 cases. In 2018, there were 526 compared to 486 in 2017.

In El Paso County, there were 201 cases of sexual assault, up from 176 in 2017.

In Pueblo, the trends are the opposite.

Violent crime decreased overall, including murder. It fell from 10 in 2017 to 8 in 2018.

Across all of Colorado, assaults make up the greatest number of violent crime cases.

In our communities, most of the people attacked and arrested are between the ages of 25 and 34.
