Horses involved in El Paso County animal abuse case need new home

Several of the horses that were rescued from a barn after they were found in brutal conditions are now ready for adoption.

Two dead horses and 10 starving horses were found by the El Paso County Sheriff’s office back in March, after a tip about animal negligence on the property.

The property, owned by Brian Holloway, is in the 2300 block of Slocum road between Colorado Springs and Ellicott. After a lengthy investigation, Holloway eventually turned himself in and now faces two counts of felony cruelty to animals and 10 counts misdemeanor cruelty to animals. He posted bond and goes back to court in August.

The horses have been staying at the Dumb Friends League Harmony Equine Center in Franktown ever since. Workers there say some of the horses are now healthy and ready for forever homes.

If you’d like more information on how you can adopt one of the horses, you can go to the organization’s website at https://harmonyequinecenter.org.
