Suspect in east Colorado Springs murder caught in North Carolina

Colorado Springs police say the U.S. Marshals Service found a murder suspect wanted in connection with a shooting that happened in late May at an eastside apartment complex.

Marshals found Christopher Freeman, Jr. in Charlotte, North Carolina, and coordinated his arrest with local officials on June 17, according to CSPD. He has since been extradited to Colorado and is in custody at the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.

Freeman was wanted in connection with a shooting that claimed the life of 46-year-old James Quilter. Quilter was found dead outside an apartment complex near 200 N. Murray Blvd.

Freeman faces a charge of second-degree murder.

The Colorado Springs Police Department is looking for a 31-year-old man accused of murder in a fatal shooting that happened in late May at an eastside apartment complex.

The shooting happened on May 30 in the 200 block of N. Murray Blvd. Police say 46-year-old James Quilter was found dead outside the apartment complex with a gunshot wound.

Wednesday, CSPD said an arrest warrant was obtained for Christopher Freeman. Freeman is wanted for second-degree murder.

Freeman is considered armed and dangerous. If you see him, police say you should not approach him and to call law enforcement. If you have any information regarding the suspect, you can call (719)444-7000.

CSPD says this is the seventh homicide this year in Colorado Springs. At this time last year, police say the city had 14 homicides.
