Driver charged with vehicular homicide for motorcyclist’s death

A man is facing vehicular homicide charges after a crash that left one motorcyclist dead Friday in Colorado Springs.

At approximately 10:58 p.m. on Friday, June 21 three vehicles crashed at the intersection of Ridgeline Drive and Voyager Parkway.

Investigators say two motorcycle riders were traveling northbound on Voyager Pkwy., just before 11 p.m. Friday. The driver of a pickup truck traveling southbound turned on to Ridgeline Dr., colliding with both of them.

One of the motorcyclists, 29-year-old Nathaniel Thomas of Colorado Springs, was declared dead at the scene. The at-fault driver, 55-year-old Gregory Sundgaard, was evaluated and arrested for a DUI on Friday. Monday, police said he was charged with vehicular homicide.

Neither the other motorcyclist nor the driver and passenger of the pickup truck were injured.

The Colorado Springs Police Department’s Major Crash Team has taken over the investigation.
