CDOT continues to repair damages left by harsh winter

If you’re driving on Interstate 25 just south of Colorado Springs Tuesday night, expect slowdowns as nighttime paving operations will be taking place between mile markers 130 and 132.

The one-lane closure will begin at 9 p.m. and run through 5 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Michelle Peulen, communications manager for CDOT said, “Our maintenance crews will be out repaving I-25 between mile point 130 and 132 just South of Colorado Springs.”

Peulen says the work being done is to repave potholes that were caused by this year’s harsh winter.

“We definitely had a harder hit winter this year as far as snow goes then we did last year. So, pothole wise it probably is a little bit worse,” said Peulen.

So what should drivers expect Tuesday night?

“Expect to see one lane of traffic,” said Peulen. “So we will be taking one lane to repave it, and then we will be reducing the speed limit to 55.”

And because of the harsh winter, more road work is expected to come. CDOT asks that you be patient and prepared.

“Last night and tonight they were on I-25, and Wednesday night they will be on US 24 and this will kind of continue on through the summer as we repair the roadways that winter was so harsh on,” said Peulen.

CDOT warns that every four out of five work zone crashes end in fatality, so make sure you are taking it slow and following the law when going through a work zone.
