Authorities find body of Colorado Springs man in Lake Pueblo

Rangers at Lake Pueblo recovered the body of an elderly Colorado Springs man early Tuesday morning.

The body was recovered in about 40 feet of water following an all-night search. The search was triggered when an empty boat was found adrift in a cove on the north shore Monday afternoon.

The remains were turned over to Pueblo County Coroner for identification and determination of a cause of death. The Pueblo Chieftain says he was identified as 73-year-old David Bothel of Colorado Springs.

According to the witnesses who called authorities, they say they saw an older man fishing alone in the same boat about 20 minutes earlier.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife began searching on land and in the water shortly after 3:25 p.m. Severe weather put the rescue efforts on hold until 7 p.m. The search then resumed for the rest of the night.
