Marty’s Sunday Morning Forecast – Lesser Chances for Showers – 5/19/19

Today: Patchy low clouds over the plains will burn off this morning then partly cloudy and breezy to windy at times during the afternoon with high temperatures in the 60s to lower 70s for the plains; mainly 50s over the mountains. Although showers and thunderstorms aren’t as likely this afternoon a few sprinkles or brief showers are still possible over and near the mountains.

Tonight: Scattered showers should wind down this evening then increasing clouds with areas of low cloud cover and even some drizzle or light rain possibly developing over the eastern plains late. The air should cool into the 30s and 40s along and west of the I-25 corridor with some lower 50s for the eastern plains by dawn.

Extended: Monday morning could feature some low clouds and possibly some drizzle or light rain showers, and the afternoon is likely to bring some rain and thunderstorms to more of the area with some wet snow again possible at times over the mountains. Temperatures Monday afternoon will likely be coolest along and north of the Arkansas River with 40s and 50s likely, but 60s and 70s are still possible over southern areas, especially near the higher terrain. Colder air will surge southward Monday night possibly causing rain to change to a little wet snow as low as the higher elevations along the I-25 corridor. Several inches of wet snow may fall over some of our local mountain areas Monday night through Tuesday morning. Tuesday afternoon should be windy with just isolated showers possible and temperatures ranging from the 40s over the mountains to the 60s for the plains. Wednesday through Friday should be mostly dry and warmer but windy at times. Scattered thunderstorms may return to more areas on Saturday.
