Discrepancies found in 2 Colorado Springs detectives’ case filings

The Colorado Springs Police Department says an internal audit led to the discovery of discrepancies in case filings by two detectives, and now the 4th Judicial District Attorney’s Office is reviewing those detectives’ cases going back to 2012.

According to a release from CSPD, the two detectives weren’t consistently filing electronic case report documents to the DA’s office. The department says “the information that was not provided to the DA’s office appears to be primarily administrative in nature.”

No further specifics were given about what information was missing; the audit happened in late 2018.

The two detectives have “left the Property Crimes Unit at the Sand Creek Division,” according to CSPD. Their identities weren’t released.

The department is evaluating all of the filed cases from those two detectives “from 2012 forward,” and they’re resubmitting them to the DA’s office “to ensure all pieces of information are provided to the defendants.”

CSPD says it’s believed the discrepancies were “isolated to these two detectives.”
