Baby howler monkey born at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo

A baby howler monkey was born at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo just in time for the first day of spring.

Three-year-old Charlie gave birth to her baby at about 3:45 p.m. Tuesday at Colorado Springs’ zoo.

The baby hasn’t been named yet, and its gender likely won’t be confirmed for several months, zoo officials said. Within moments, Charlie was cradling and grooming the baby as she held it.

Charlie’s mate, Howie , was in the habitat during the birth but has been keeping his distance for now, the zoo said.

Charlie and the baby will remain in the Monkey Pavilion exhibit and can be viewed by guests.
