Lingering blizzard effects: snow drifts block people in near Woodmen

Two days after the historic blizzard in Colorado, people are still feeling the aftermath of Wednesday’s storm. Cars still stranded and homes were blown in while winds up to 90 mph wreaked havoc.

Andy Ranney, a resident who lives along E. Woodmen, said, “When the windows started to move back and forth and it was blowing snow around the door and off the deck, yeah we got a little concerned about it.”

It wasn’t until Friday morning that a plow finally came through and was able to clear the roads in one neighborhood.

Because of the massive drifts, people had to park on the outside of their properties.

Andy and Terry Ranney have experienced this before, but it’s been awhile.

Terry Ranney said, “So we had 8-10 foot drifts right here and it’s over our fence in a couple of places. So yeah, when we get storms like this, this is the norm.”

Jimmy Moon, who also lives along E. Woodmen, says the blizzard was one to remember. He walked us through digging out his horse after the storm.

“Yesterday morning we came out and got her out,” Moon said. “We had to dig all that out just to get the doors open to get her out.”

And after working all day Thursday to clear the drifts, Moon’s goal now is to clear the area in front of his gate so his horse can get out and run.

“We’re going to get a loader out here today and get it all cleaned up,” said Moon.

Moon has been here since 1999 and after the last few days, he says it might be time to move somewhere where he no longer has to shovel.
