Marty’s Sunday Morning Forecast – Slick Start – 3/3/2019

Today: Several inches of a light, generally airy snow has many area roadways covered this morning so leave a little extra time to get around. Areas of light snow and/or flurries will be likely at times today, but accumulating snow is not likely for much of the day. Intermittent bands of heavier snow may develop at times starting later this afternoon, and under these bands localized areas could receive an additional 1″- 2″ of snow, but like thunderstorms it is difficult to know exactly where these bands will develop. All areas will be cold with high temperatures only in the teens and 20s.

Tonight: There are indications that another wave will enhance the snowfall over parts of the area tonight into early Monday likely favoring southern parts of our coverage area. Although snow tonight won’t be as widespread or as heavy as it was last night, an additional 1″- 3″ could fall over parts of the Pikes Peak Region, and possibly slightly heavier amounts over and near the Wet and Sangre De Cristo mountains helping to keep roadways slick for some areas into Monday morning. Many areas will wake to temperatures in the single digits to start the workweek!

Extended: We expect Monday to be mostly cloudy & very cold with pockets of freezing fog and light snow and/or flurries falling intermittently throughout the day. High temperatures for the plains will only reach the 20s with communities on the higher terrain perhaps warming into the 30s. Low clouds and patchy freezing fog may begin to recede from the mountains during the day on Tuesday, but warming will be slow through Wednesday, and snow will continue to fall over the high country through Thursday. Thursday and Friday look warmer locally, but possibly windy for some areas too. The next storm may spread more snow over the area late Friday into Saturday.
