SUV driver loses control, crashes through fence in Colorado Springs

Colorado Springs police said a driver was taken to a hospital after an SUV cashed through a fence Thursday at the busy intersection of Interstate 25 and Garden of the Gods Road.

The midday crash left debris — including a wheel sheared from the vehicle — strewn across a grassy area near a McDonald’s restaurant.

Police said the SUV was traveling east on Garden of the Gods Road and turning left to get on the freeway entrance ramp when it apparently lost control and ripped through part of a guardrail and a fence adjacent to the ramp.

The driver’s identity and injury were unclear Thursday evening.

Westbound traffic on Garden of the Gods Road was unable to turn tight toward the entrance ramp until the scene was cleared.

Police are investigating what caused the crash.
