Strong winds close Pikes Peak summit Wednesday

Wind gusts of 85 mph led officials to close the summit of Pikes Peak to visitors Wednesday.

Glen Cove, the unofficial halfway point, is as far as drivers can go.

Winds are strong enough to blow small rocks that can crack vehicle windshields and break door glass.

Conditions on the peak could be similar Thursday with more strong winds expected.
