20-year-old dies in Costilla County crash

A 20-year-old has died after being involved in a crash on La Veta Pass Sunday afternoon.

Milanyela Meza, of Westminster, CO, was driving a 2009 Pontiac G6 sedan when she lost control while traveling eastbound on Highway 160. The Pontiac lost control in a left-hand corner and rotated into the westbound lane, where it collided with a 2011 Freightliner truck-tractor.

Meza was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the Freightliner truck-tractor did not sustain any injuries.

Excessive speed is considered a primary factor in the crash. Colorado State Patrol is continuing to investigate the fatal crash.
