Medal of Honor dedicated for Colorado Springs VA Clinic’s namesake

It’s been a decade in the making to recognize a local Medal of Honor recipient who died in World War II.

PFC Floyd K. Lindstrom grew up in Colorado Springs, joined the Army and fought and died in action.

Lindstrom was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions back in Italy in November 1943. When with “aggressive spirit” he was able to break up a counterattack.

Saturday, a Medal of Honor was dedicated to Lindstrom at the VA Clinic in Colorado Springs which is named after him.

Keith LeMee, the chairman of the Centennial Committee for American Legion Post 5 has been working for about 10 years to make that happen.

“It really put a burr on my saddle that we have a medal of honor recipient that grew up here in Colorado Springs and there’s nothing for him,” LeMee Said.

A decade ago LeMee started working to give Lindstrom the honor he deserves, several years later, the VA Eastern Colorado Healthcare System Clinic in Colorado Springs was named after Lindstrom.

Then came a big ask from LaMee of Drew Dix, President of the Medal of Honor Society.

“I asked him if we could get the ball rolling again about getting a medal,” LaMee said.

“That’s a tough thing to do, but for the right reason we can make it happen,” Dix said.

In conjunction with the Center for American Values, Saturday in a room filled with dozens of veterans at the VA Clinic, the gold medal with blue ribbon was placed around the neck of his uniform. It will remain on Lindstrom’s uniform and placed with a case of his belongings on display at the clinic.
