Fatal crash on I-25 shuts down highway, adult male killed

Update: The Colorado Springs Police Department is investigating a fatal crash on I-25 Southbound at South Nevada Avenue, near Mile Marker 140 Sunday.

Lieutenant Black with the Colorado Springs Police Department tell us when they got to the scene, they found one adult male dead. They say he was walking on the street at the time of the wreck.

Three other victims were transported to the hospital, all expected to be OK.

Black says he expects the Southbound lanes of I-25 near the scene to be shut down for the next several hours. He’s asking the public to avoid the area and take different routes if at all possible.

Colorado Springs police are responding to a fatal crash on I-25 Southbound at South Nevada Avenue, near Mile Marker 140.

The accident was reported around 4:45 p.m.

CSPD also tweeted there was another accident in the northbound lanes as well.

Around 5 p.m., police shut down the interstate in both directions, between Mile Marker 139 and Mile Marker 140.

Moments later, officers cleared the debris on northbound lanes and have since been reopened.

All southbound lanes remain closed.

Traffic is very slow – and it’s being diverted off the highway.

No word on what caused the crashes yet.
