Family of fallen El Paso County Deputy Micah Flick speaks out for first time

Life changed forever for the Flick family one year ago at the Murray Hill Apartment Complex.

El Paso County law enforcement was attempting to arrest 19-yea-old Manuel Zetina who was suspected of auto theft. That’s when shots rang out, and in the crossfire, El Paso County Deputy Micah Flick was found motionless.

“My daughter called and they told me Micah had been shot and they didn’t know if he made it,” said Tim Flick, father of Micah. “I tore out for the hospital and found that to be true.”

For the first time since the fatal shooting, Tim and his wife Chenoa Flick, mother and father of Deputy Micah Flick, spoke with KRDO on what happened February 5th of last year.

This year, every day closer to the anniversary brings some familiar and unwanted memories.

“I’m starting to relive a lot of the very traumatic events of that day,” said Chenoa Flick.

This past year has been tough and the Flicks’ aren’t sure when things will get any better. However, support from the community has gone a long way.

“The night he died and the people that lined up the roads that still gets to me,” said Tim Flick. “That’s just more than impressive. Shows the hearts of people that really care.”

For the Flick family, they choose to follow in Micah’s footsteps by supporting law enforcement throughout the country.

Holidays have been difficult for the Flick family, however, they say Super Bowl may hit the hardest. Last year’s Super Bowl was the last time the entire family was together with Micah.

“Super bowl means something different to us this year,” said Flick. “It has a mixture of sadness.”

With the one year anniversary looming, Micah’s family has only one request: support law enforcement.
