Man gets 6 years for rollover crash that ejected 1-year-old

A man responsible for a drunk driving crash that threw a one-year-old child to the road was sentenced Wednesday to six years in prison.

Police say William James Alexander was driving under the influence in September when he crashed into a parked car and flipped his truck, causing the child to be ejected. It happened on Colorado Ave. between 10th and 12th streets.

Witnesses saw Alexander try to run from the scene, but they held him until officers arrived.

Alexander was sentenced for vehicular assault-DUI and driving under the influence, according to the 4th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

A one-year-old child is in critical condition after being thrown from a car following a rollover crash in Old Colorado City.

It happened along Colorado Avenue in between 10th and 12th St.

According to police, William James Alexander, 44, was driving when he crashed into a parked car. He tried to run away from the scene but was detained by several bystanders.

Alexander is now facing charges of felony child abuse, vehicular assault, leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injuries, and DUI.
