Police department asks for volunteers to get drunk

A police department in Pennsylvania is planning to train officers how to detect if someone is inebriated, and they can’t do it without some volunteers to actually get drunk.

The Kutztown Borough Police Department put out a notice Wednesday asking for volunteers to drink alcohol “to the point of inebriation” in order to train officers to administer standardized field sobriety tests.

Want to qualify for a boozy binge on the taxpayers’ dime? You had to be between 25 and 40 with no history of drug or alcohol abuse, have a clean criminal history, have a responsible chaperone for afterward, and sign a waiver clearing the department of any liability.

Within 24 hours, the post had been shared by thousands, and the department received an “overwhelming response” of volunteers. The lucky participants haven’t been selected yet.

The testing will take place on April 4, and people are asking for a video to be shared when it happens.

We’re not sure if this technically counts as community service.
