Local credit union offers loans to customers affected by government shutdown

At a time when Congress and President Trump haven’t figured out what do about the government shut down, a local credit union is stepping up to help people who aren’t getting a paycheck.

Friday is the 21st day the government has been shut down and the first-day federal employees didn’t get paid. A bill was passed to pay them what they are owed when the shutdown ends, but in the meantime, many are waiting.

ENT Credit Union is now offering no-interest 90-Day Single Pay Loan.

It is for customers who already bank with them and have their direct deposit set up through their accounts. This allows the bank to see what their last paycheck amounted to so they can match it.

Marketing Director for ENT, Brian Rowedder, says this offer is, “to make sure they the funds available as you said to meet their mortgage payments, their auto loan payments, rent, food, whatever they need.”

By the of day, Thursday, 105 people had come forward taking advantage of the offer, with more coming in on Friday. The final number won’t be determined until the end of the business day.
