Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office investigating circumstances around inmate’s death

The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a 58-year-old inmate inside the Pueblo County Jail Wednesday morning.

An autopsy for the death is scheduled for Thursday after detention deputies discovered Mauro Hernandez was unresponsive in his bed while they were preparing to serve food trays around 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Deputies and medical staff say they attempted to perform life-saving measures but unable to revive Hernandez.

The Sheriff’s Office is working with the Pueblo County Coroner’s office on the death investigation.
