Firefighters work on unstable propane cylinders in Monument

Emergency responders were called to relieve pressure from a few unstable propane cylinders behind a Monument convenience store Thursday afternoon.

According to the Tri-Lakes and Monument Fire Protection District, the cylinders are behind the 7-Eleven near 3rd Street. Crews were asking for people to avoid the area. A total of three cylinders were found leaking.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office HazMat team and the Colorado Springs Police Explosives Unit were called to the area. A robot moved the canisters to open fields to release the pressure with a high-pressure water cannon.

There’s no suspected criminal activity related to the unstable cylinders.

No injuries have been reported.
