Installation of Colorado Springs red light cameras delayed by permits, construction

The City of Colorado Springs Red Light Camera program is experiencing delays in installation.

It was announced in August these four intersections in Colorado Springs would receive red light cameras:

North Carefree Circle & Academy Platte & Chelton Dublin & Academy Lexington & Briargate Blvd.

CSPD Chief Pete Carey told KRDO the cameras would be installed in the Fall of 2018. But, in the second week of 2019, the cameras have not been put up.

CSPD said they’ve had delays in permits and construction and that’s what’s keeping red light cameras off Colorado Springs streets right now.

“We’re working through those and we’ll get operational here as quickly as we possibly can,” Lt. Howard Black said.

Springs Police and the City are hoping when the cameras are installed, it will help reduce serious accidents.

“We’re coming out of a year of 48 traffic fatalities, this is going to be extra eyes in some of our most serious crash locations,” Black said.

CSPD didn’t specify an exact date the cameras would be up and running. But said they’re hopeful the system will be p and running in the early part of this year.
