Marty’s Sunday Morning Forecast – Warm Before The Storm – 12/30/18

Today: The air will be crisp this morning then a little warmer for all areas this afternoon. We expect the sky to remain mostly sunny and for most areas the wind will be pretty light, but near the mountain and over the far eastern plains it may be breezy at times this afternoon. High temperatures should reach to 40s to near 50 for the plains, mainly 30s and 40s over the mountains.

Tonight: Mostly clear this evening, then increasing clouds and wind after midnight with some light snow developing over and near the mountains by morning. The air should have cooled into the teens and lower 20s for most areas by morning, but some mountain areas might be in the single digits.

Extended: New Years Eve and New Years Day look wintry! Monday will be much colder and windy with snow likely, especially over and near the mountains. Accumulations of a light, airy snow along and east of I-25 will generally be light, but there will be pockets near the mountains where significant accumulations of snow will occur. The heaviest snow will occur near the Sangre De Cristo and Wet Mountains where some areas may receive between 6″ and 12″ of snow by Tuesday morning but there may be some pockets near the mountains in the Pikes Peak Region where 3″ to 6″ of snow could fall as well. Most areas along and east of I-25 will probably receive between 1″ and 3″ of snow with the far eastern plains probably receiving less than an inch. The air will remain very chilly on Monday and Tuesday with high temperatures only in the teens and 20s, and low temperatures above and below zero likely. The air will gradually warm starting Wednesday, and by Thursday and Friday most areas should expect afternoon temperatures to reach the 40s and 50s.
