Facing liquidation, Sears to close three stores in Southern Colorado

After 125 years, Sears, one of the most iconic stores in America, will be liquidated.

Chairman Eddie Lampert or any other bidder, had until today at 2 pm to submit their bid. Facing liquidation, Sears announced the closure of 80 more stores in March, including the two stores here in Colorado Springs and one in Pueblo.

Back in October, the employer of nearly 70,000 people filed for bankruptcy. We spoke to Nicholas Mangar a Sears employee back in October when Sears first filed, he said he could tell it was coming.

“Especially last black Friday there wasn’t a whole lot of people here compared to other stores, other areas in the city and just like you said, slowly, slowly starting to decline and like he just said, people are getting a little worrisome like am I going to have a warranty left?” said Mangar.

When sears filed for bankruptcy, they had open just 700 stores including the two here in Colorado Springs, however, they announced in November that they had closed 40 more stores and now the two here in Colorado Springs will for sure be closing in March.

Sears shoppers said they are not surprised.

Gene Hawthorn said, “this is a capitalistic country, and things fall apart.”

While another shopper Fred Baxter added, “they used to have quality service and now they don’t have very good service because they are having a hard time keeping employees because of the lay-off possible.”

But some will be sad to see it go, “I don’t like it, it’s really handy for me when I do need to go shopping.” Said Joann Ward.
