Nation’s oldest living World War II veteran dies at 112

Richard Overton, the nation’s oldest living World War II veteran, has died at the age of 112. He was inside a rehab facility at the time of his death.

It was reported earlier this month, Overton was hospitalized with pneumonia. His family says he died from complications from the illness.

He served in the South Pacific from 1940 to 1945 until he left the U.S. Army in October 1945.

Overton was born in Bastrop County, Texas and enrolled into the U.S. military in 1940 at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
