Family in upstate New York builds 18-foot snowman, now looking for a scarf for him

A family in upstate New York has a very special mission around Christmas time each year: to build an 18-foot snowman in the yard they’ve given the name Franklin.

According to WPBF News, the McCormick family has built the massive snowman in their front lawn for the past two years, but this year, he is by far the tallest he’s ever been. But how do they do it?

“We get out the snowblower, make sure it’s running and just start going in circles,” Pat McCormick told WPBF, who started the tradition three years ago on Christmas Eve.

The family says they chose Franklin because of the county in which they live. According to both WPBF and a Facebook post, the family has been searching for a scarf for Franklin over the last few days.

Because he is so big, it is hard to find one to fit. In the Facebook post, the family is looking for knitted or crocheted swatches of fabric they can use to stitch together and make big enough.

To donate to Franklin’s scarf, knit or crochet a swatch to measure three feet wide. It can be of any color or any length. The finished scarf will be sown together to measure 20 feet long.

Swatches can be sent to:
