Quiet through Christmas 12-24-18

TONIGHT: Clouds will increase overnight with lows falling to the teens and 20s. A few areas may stay closer to the low 30s where we experience thicker cloud cover.

CHRISTMAS DAY: Clouds will be around early with temps mainly in the 20s. A little clearing make take place along the I-25 corridor during the afternoon which could help to warm temps into the afternoon after a slow warm-up through the morning. Highs look to top out in the upper 30s to upper 40s. A few areas across the Plains may be able to jump to the low 50s briefly. Overall skies will remain partly cloudy to partly sunny with mainly dry conditions. There is the possibility of a few sprinkles or flurries after dark across portions of the Plains and Mountains.

EXTENDED: The weather turns a bit more interesting for the day following Christmas and those with travel plans may want to plan accordingly if possible. We have issued a Weather Alert for both Wednesday and Thursday as strong storm system will be moving in during this time. It looks to bring accumulating snow to parts of the area with potential travel impacts and much colder temps. A second storm may then follow moving in Friday into Saturday but there is still much to determine with that one. Right now plan on checking back to updated forecasts as things begin to develop over the coming days. We are likely to see highs drop to the teens and 20s by later this week into the weekend.
