NORAD Santa Tracker, Where is Santa Claus?

Tonight is the night! Santa Claus is coming to town, and NORAD, Based right here in Southern Colorado is tracking his every move. It’s the 63rd year that NORAD teamed up with Santa Claus so you could follow along on his journey across the globe.

What once started as a mistake 63 years ago, has now developed into an internationally known program with hundreds of thousands of children calling in to see where Santa is.

Victoria Londono a volunteer said, “I ‘ ve spoke to two kids from Australia, Germany and I got a kid from Puerto Rico today.”

Londono has been a volunteer with the NORAD Santa Tracker every year for the last five years, she says it’s one of her favorite things to do over Christmas.

“I like that I can talk to kids from all over the world, I think that is absolutely amazing, ” said Londono.

But just how do they track Santa? Well, Major Mark Lazane says it has something to do with a certain reindeer.

Major Lazane said, “Rudolph ‘ s nose is essential to this operation. NORAD has the ability to track any heat signature around the world to determine if it is a threat to North America or not. And on December 24th, we use those same skill sets and that same technology to also track Santa for folks around the world.”

They will stop taking phone calls around midnight.
