Investigation continues after murder arrest made in Kelsey Berreth case
Although we have learned more details about the investigation into Kelsey Berreth’s disappearance, there is still much more we don’t know.
Last Friday, Patrick Frazee, Kelsey Berreth’s fiance and father of her child, was apprehended for her disappearance and murder in Florissant. He was brought to the Teller County jail where he currently resides, but the investigation is only beginning.
Dan Corsentino is a private investigator, former Pueblo County Sheriff, and former Fountain Police Chief. He says the investigation is still in the early stages.
Corsentino points out that the charges are preliminary and that future arrests could be on the way. Frazee was charged with the murder of Kelsey Berreth and the solicitation of her murder.
“When they tack on the solicitation charge it tells me there may be someone else out there that could be involved in this case,” said Corsentino. “They may have even been approached to commit a crime or participated in this crime.”
The other big development this past week was a devastating one for those holding out hope for Berreth’s return.
Woodland Park Police Chief Mike De Young announced to the media that he did not believe Kelsey was still alive.
So how did they come to this conclusion? Investigators would not divulge that information, but last week investigators were carrying brown paper bags out of Berreth’s Woodland Park home.
Corsentino believes he has an idea what that evidence could look like, and it is all about the DNA
“The first thing investigators are looking for is to try and connect Frazee through blood splatter, blood, to try and find the location where the crime took place and then you are looking for DNA,” said Corsentino.
Corsentino believes if they have come to the conclusion that she is no longer living then they must have some DNA proof. He speculates they could posses signs of a struggle in her home, DNA on clothing, or perhaps markings on Frazee himself.
Frazee may now be in custody, but Corsentino says investigators still have a two goals.
“They are going to continue to build the technology side of the case. The forensic side of the case, and they are going to be able to present it clearly.” said Corsentino. “The second question is will they be able to locate Kelsey.”
Investigators say they have narrowed down their search for Berreth. In the mean time, Corsentino expects investigators to look for more third party individuals with knowledge of the alleged incident.
