Package thieves in Colorado Springs use new tactics to steal your holiday presents

Porch pirates are certainly nothing new, especially now around the holidays. But as this new category of crime has evolved, the brazen thieves have begun use some disturbing new tactics. We’ve seen several instances where porch pirates get caught on video through services like Ring doorbell. Kelly doesn’t want to reveal her last name, but says that’s why she asks neighbors to pick up her packages when she’s not home. “I actually had my neighbor the day before pick up packages and I coordinated with them and they were over there within minutes,” she said. Only this time it didn’t go as planned. A UPS employee was caught on camera dropping off a box at her door. Minutes later a Post Office employee drops off a separate bag. Then in a separate video, her neighbor then picks up the packages and takes them to his home. But what happens next is the strange part. Her neighbor’s son, Xaiyne Calma-Viloria, got a knock at the door from someone claiming to know Kelly. “There were two people standing there. A larger male, bald hair and at the time he was wearing a blue-green shirt and a woman with a nose piercing with black hair and they immediately said hey we’re here to pick up Kelly’s packages,” said Calma-Viloria. And they knew more than just her name. “They said two packages. They stated exactly two packages. They stated exactly what kind of packages and how many there were. It was a box and a plastic bag,” he said. Because they were so specific, Calma-Viloria gave them the packages. But they didn’t get away without getting caught on camera. Both on the way up the driveway, then again as they walked towards their car with another man standing by with several boxes in the trunk. Though Kelly says she doesn’t know the trio, they knew her name. “They knew that my neighbor picked them up. Somebody was watching so I think it was an inside tip,” Kelly said. The worst part of all? The packages were Christmas presents a nd without knowing if she’ll get them back, she has a message: “I think they will be found.” Sharing the videos, in hopes that you can help. A police report and claim with the postal service have been filed. Kelly says she’s also hoping the thieves could just bring her packages back. Although she knows, it’s wishful thinking.
