‘Adulting Day’ at Kentucky high school teaches students to cook, change a tire, and finances

From math to science, students learn all sorts of subjects in school, but have you ever wondered if your child is learning the life skills they need in order to enter adulthood in the real world?

A high school in Kentucky is aiming to find a solution after holding what they called an “Adulting Day” Wednesday.

According to WAVE, seniors at Bullitt Central High School in Shepherdsville were taught things like dorm-room cooking when they get to college, how to change a tire and credit cards/financing.

“I think that the idea occurred to me, originally, [when] I saw a Facebook post that parents passed around saying they needed a class in high school on taxes and cooking,” Christy Hardin, director of the BCHS Family Resource & Youth Services Center, told WAVE.

The day gave students a chance to meet one-on-one with members of the community such as police officers who told them how to act during traffic stops. Other guest speakers included members of the Army and one who spoke about what to do when they started getting feelings of homesickness.
