City of Colorado Springs shuts down homeless camp

Colorado Springs city leaders shut down one of the city’s biggest homeless camps Tuesday. Its been a controversial topic for months.

“We’re doing our best, we’re not perfect but this is a first step,” said city council president Richard Skorman.

“Unfortunately we don’t have a city where people can camp because there just isn’t the facilities for them to go to the bathroom to cook to camp and its not a great thing for the neighbors to have to deal with as well and so it’s a balance but we aren’t being cruel we are putting together a lot of great programs for the homeless,” Skorman added.

City leaders put even more pressure on the homeless community, giving people living out of old RV’s fewer places to park them. Police can now give out warnings, tickers and even impound the RV’s causing issues.

There’s still one more homeless public forum left, as more beds have been added to the Springs Rescue Mission, with more room for meals and storage lockers in the plans for the future.
