19-year old man killed on I-25 southbound in Larkspur, investigation ongoing

UPDATE: Colorado State Patrol is investigating a crash that happened on I-25 early Monday morning in Douglas County.

Investigators were called to southbound Interstate 25 (Larkspur) near mile marker 172 around 4:14 a.m. for a fatal crash.

Early evidence suggests a 19-year-old male from Aurora was near the west edge of the road for unknown reasons. Police believe the man stepped into the lane of traffic directly in front of a 2015 International box truck driving in the right lane.

The man was struck by the truck, ending up in the left lane of the road. A possible second vehicle then hit and ran over the 19-year-old.

The driver of the International truck, a 23-year-old male from Denver, remained at the scene. The driver of the second vehicle did not. Aside from the pedestrian who was pronounced dead at the scene, no other injuries were reported during the incident.

The CSP is asking anyone with information about the case to please step forward. Investigators say the second vehicle may have minor damage. They think the driver was unaware of what was hit and are seeking information about the incident. Police are not looking to place charges against him at this time.

Call CSP at (303) 239-4501 and reference case # 1C183745 if you know any other details.
